It's main use is to sort images from different cameras in the order that they were taken. This can arise as a problem if several cameras document the same event (such as a family holiday). When the images are extracted they can sometimes be mixed up and clash with file names.
If you wanted to sort the photos the way they would be in order they were taken, you have a lot of hours of manual work in front of you.
Mihov EXIF Renamer can use embedded EXIF data to change the filename of the photos, putting them in a correct order of when they were taken.
